Could this sink the hopes of Owen Harpers’ Return To Torchwood
I have previously discussed the Burn Gorman possible return to Torchwood for series 3, I have just seen a piece in the paper that might put pay to this.
If there is going to be a series 3 of Torchwood (and it has been unofficially confirmed by just about everyone to do with the show) it should be officially announced in about 6 weeks (once Dr Who series 4 has finished airing) and filming should start in late 2008.
Now the Owen Harper Returns people have been saying that he is working on another project when torchwood series 3 should be filmed - this was expected to be a cover, but it has been mentioned in the Daily Mail that he will play Bill Sykes in the stage version of Oliver! (the production that BBC, John Barrowman and ALW are choosing Nancy and Oliver for).
I suspect if this is true (no official confirmation that I have seen) that this would tie up Burn Gorman for the period where he would be filming series 3 of Torchwood.
So I think Owen Harper is dead, unless someone wants to point me toward a reliable source that he will return.
Actually, from what has been said, filming is due to start in August (or around then) and Eve Myles let slip at The Rift (or Collectormania) in the last 2 weeks or so that filming/prep was to begin that week. Plus, John is due to do Panto come December so he will be working that time too. Burn DID cancel doing a play this summer that he was supposed to be in. He confirmed this to some fans at one of John’s concerts, and kind of dodged the question of season 3. So until we hear anything official, I have high hopes he’s returning.
I don’t about Owen returning, but I do know that Torchwood needs and has to return. I am in love with show and the charactors. So unofficial this site may be I can only express my thoughts
With the rumours of S3 only being a half-series, which is quite possibly true, we’re looking at a shooting period of probably only three months. Traditionally the winners of shows like ‘I’d Do Anything’ have had 5-6 weeks of rehearsals for opening night, which for Oliver! is 12th December, so I’m guessing rehearsals will start mid-October or maybe early October.
John Barrowman is doing Panto in Birmingham again this year, so filming for Torchwood will have to wrap up before he is due to start rehearsals for that, again adding credence to the idea that we have a shortened shooting run. Most of the cast have mentioned August as a shooting start, so if the rumour of 5-6 episodes is true they should wrap up in time for rehearsals for the two mentioned live shows. No-one knows the exact dates, obviously, but based on that the schedules *could* just about fit, still.
And of course there’s always the possibility that Owen will skip a season and return in S4, when Burn’s run as Bill Sikes will likely have ended.

Hi just watched the end of series 2 (BBC in America Tivo). I want Tosh and Owen back. Along with Gwen they are my favorite characters. And it seems from all the info online it will be on BBC-1, so if I understand the British channel system correctly that means they will tone down the adult themes. I’m not sure I would continue to watch, if they leave them dead. It seems they had a successful cast and premise just some poor writing. They need better writers not new characters.
